Editorial
Our editorial guidelines
Every article published on SpaProof follows an editorial process designed to ensure accuracy, fairness, and usefulness. Wellness content should meet the same standard of evidence that readers expect from health journalism.
Editorial mission
Our goal is to help readers understand wellness practices through clear, evidence-based writing. We explain what the research says, acknowledge where it's limited, and avoid making claims that go beyond the available evidence. We are not a medical resource. We are a guide for curious, health-conscious people.
Content standards
All content on SpaProof is held to the following standards:
- Research-backed. Claims are supported by scientific research, expert consensus, or clearly labeled as anecdotal.
- Balanced. We present benefits and risks. If a practice has limited or conflicting evidence, we say so.
- Actionable. Articles give readers practical information they can use, not just theory.
- Honest. We don't exaggerate benefits or downplay risks to make content more shareable.
Sourcing
We prioritize the following types of sources, in order of preference:
- Peer-reviewed studies published in reputable journals
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
- Guidance from recognized health organizations
- Expert commentary from credentialed professionals
When citing research, we link directly to the study or a publicly accessible abstract. We avoid citing press releases or secondary reporting as primary sources.
Spa reviews
Our spa and venue reviews are based on real, in-person visits. We evaluate facilities on cleanliness, atmosphere, treatment quality, staff knowledge, and value. We pay for our own visits and do not accept complimentary services, sponsorships, or payment in exchange for reviews. If that ever changes, we will disclose it clearly.
Corrections
We take factual accuracy seriously. If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and note the correction at the top of the article with the date it was made. If you spot an error, please let us know at [email protected].
Content updates
Wellness research evolves. We periodically review published articles to ensure they reflect current evidence. When an article is substantially updated, we revise the publication date and note what changed.
Editorial independence
Our editorial decisions are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or affiliate relationships. If we ever introduce affiliate links or sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled and separated from our editorial content.
